Puberty Blues? We Have The Clues!

Puberty Blues? We Have The Clues!

Young and old at the same time. Treat them as children and they will feel insulted and show resentment. Treat them as adults and expect them to behave with maturity, they may find it difficult to stick to the rules. Puberty!

As humans grow from children to adults they pass through a stage called adolescence. This is the time when major social, physical and emotional changes occur in a person’s life. The start of puberty, in addition to bodily changes there are also changes which are not very visible. These are called hormonal changes. Hormones help our body to become taller and change shape.

THE SYMPHONY OF HUMAN BODY

How does the human body get signal to grow? Any complex process generally requires an organized system for its management. For instance; when you listen to a symphony, you may comprehend that many musical instruments play the right notes and come together at the right time to create rhythmic melodies. Many different elements come together and is being organized by a conductor who communicates primarily to tell the elements when, what and how to play.

In the human body, you may consider our genes are the musical notes and at the right time the conductor called hormones tell the parts of the body what to do. Organs in our body are like the multiple musical instruments and carry out the conductor’s commands, that is of the hormones.

So, what happens during puberty?

During the phase of puberty hormones work like messengers and travel all over the body giving orders to grow or make something the body needs. A series of hormone driven changes occur in our body and we grow from children into adults. Composition of the body changes and the teenager proceeds into sexual maturity.

Years of puberty can be extremely confusing as they will not be able to connect with their feelings of being a child nor can they understand the adult world completely. Moods and behavior also changes. Reason? The same hormones.

ORAL ISSUES DURING PUBERTY

Once a child reaches double digits (in age) their body go through many changes. The part of the body where changes occur and go unnoticed is the mouth. During the transformation into adulthood there might also be some oral issues associated with these changes. One of the major changes that happen in the body during puberty is the rise in hormones. As body produces these hormones, blood flow increases in the gums. With extra flood circulation in the gums teens may experience swollen gums prone to bleeding.

Red swollen gums during puberty can be the result of hormonal fluctuations during puberty. During this time, estrogen and progesterone levels rise, causing more blood flow into the gums affecting the way gums react to plaque. Due to this, women may experience hypersensitivity, bleeding during brushing and flossing, or inflammation in the gums.

A teenager may not be changing their food habits drastically to get cavities, but lack of oral hygiene and care may cause the bacteria to eat away the teeth enamel resulting in cavities. To avoid the impact of bacterial growth a regular oral hygiene routine needs to be followed.
